Appointment of the new Borealis Alliance Policy and Regulatory Director

The Borealis Alliance, a business-driven Alliance of Air Navigation Service Providers in Europe, has announced the appointment of its new Policy and Regulatory Director, Mr Reynir Sigurðsson. 

For the last nine years Reynir Sigurðsson has been serving as a Director at the Icelandic Transport Authority (previously Icelandic Civil Aviation Administration), where he has been responsible for policy making, public administration and oversight of ANS/ATM, Aerodromes and Aviation Security. That includes implementation of the Single European Sky in Iceland. In this capacity he has been acting as the head of Iceland NSA and Deputy Director General of Civil Aviation.  
Previously he was working as a Senior CNS/ATM consultant for Integra Consult in Denmark working on projects in Scandinavia, Europe and Africa. He has also been working as a consultant and project manager in several positions with spanning, fibre optic communications infrastructure program, military radar simulation and datalink applications and operations and development of Flight Data Processing Systems in the Oceanic Control Centre in Reykjavik, where he started his career in 1991.

Brank Subotic, Executive Director of the Borealis Alliance, said:

“The Policy & Regulatory Director is a key member of the Alliance Executive Management Team, and I’m delighted that Reynir has accepted our offer. His international experience working with different countries and cultures will be invaluable, and his track record of delivery gives me confidence that he can ensure the Alliance is successful in the future."

She also added: 

“Reynir brings significant international experience to the role, including consultancy and 26 years of experience within aviation. He has extensive experience in international fora and an established network of colleagues within policy shapers (ICAO, EC/SES, EFTA, EASA) and stakeholders such as CAAs, NSAs, ANSPs, Eurocontrol and EASA, influencing on policy and engaging with stakeholders. That includes implementation, providing intelligence and advice to Director General and board of directors as well as advice and reporting at ministry level.”

Reynir will take up the role of Policy and Regulatory Director in January 2017 when the current holder of the post, Kurt Andreasen, steps down.
