The Borealis Alliance, the leading alliance of nine North European Air Navigation Service Providers, has appointed Reynir Sigurðsson as its new Executive Director.
Reynir is currently the Policy and Regulatory Director of the Borealis Alliance where he has been responsible for maintaining and expanding Borealis Alliance influence with key stakeholders such as airlines, ANSPs, European institutions and other Alliances. Previously, Reynir was a Director at the Icelandic Transport Authority, formerly the Icelandic Civil Aviation Administration, where he was responsible for policy making, public administration and oversight of ANS/ATM, Aerodromes and Aviation Security, including the implementation of the Single European Sky in Iceland. During this time, he acted as the Head of the Icelandic NSA and Deputy Director General of Civil Aviation. He has 28 years of experience in various senior management roles within ATM/ANS, aerodromes and aviation security spanning service provision, policy making, regulations and safety oversight.
Commenting on his appointment, Ásgeir Pálsson, Chair of the Borealis Alliance Board and Director Air Navigation Services Isavia, said: “Reynir has a comprehensive understanding of the provision of air navigation services and the importance of establishing and maintaining safe, efficient and cost-effective ATM services for customers. Furthermore, he has good knowledge and experience of the many challenges facing ANSPs today and I am delighted to welcome him to the team.
I would also like to put on record my thanks to Gwen Morgan, who has done a great job during her time as Executive Director, particularly in representing the Borealis Alliance helping to drive forward our initiative to deliver seamless Free Route Airspace across much of Northern Europe by 2022.”
New Executive Director Reynir Sigurðsson added: “During my time as Policy and Regulatory Director I have participated in the many areas of policy development within the field of ATM and it is clear to me that there are many challenges ahead. I am looking forward to building on the Alliance’s success to date, working with all nine Members to ensure that we continue to make a positive contribution to upcoming changes through our coordinated activities and our excellent track record of working collaboratively.”
