The Borealis Alliance, a business-driven Alliance of nine European Air Navigation Service Providers, has appointed Tanel Rautits as the new Alliance Policy and Regulatory Director. In this pivotal role, Rautits will be crucial in shaping the organisation's regulatory strategies and fostering collaborative relationships with policymakers.
With a long and successful career in Aviation, Rautits brings a wealth of experience to Borealis. Before joining the company, he held several positions in ANSPs, including several periods as CEO of EANS; he has also been running the Estonian CAA and, therefore, has industry and regulatory experience. Over several years, he has demonstrated a solid commitment to navigating complex regulatory landscapes and driving positive organisational outcomes. Rautits was one of the founding members of the Borealis FRA project and its predecessors. He was one of the initiators of the FINEST cross-border initiative, a signature project for cross-border activities.
As the Alliance Policy and Regulatory Director, Rautits will develop regulatory strategies, ensuring Borealis remains at the forefront of industry compliance and best practices. He will actively engage with policymakers, industry stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to contribute valuable insights and shape policies that align with Borealis’ mission and values.
Commenting on Rautits’s appointment, Reynir Sigurðsson, Executive Director of the Borealis Alliance, stated, “We are thrilled to welcome Rautits to the Borealis team. His extensive expertise and proven track record in Aviation make him an ideal fit for this critical role. As we continue to contribute to environmental performance and the modernisation of ATM, we seek to improve the way airspace is managed for the benefit of our customers through the evolving regulatory landscape. Mr. Rautits will be instrumental in ensuring Borealis remains compliant and well-positioned for future success.”
Tanel expressed excitement about joining Borealis, stating, "I am honoured to be part of Borealis Alliance, known for its commitment to excellence and innovation. The Alliance members are recognised as being in the leading league of European Air Navigation Service Providers in terms of performance achieved, safety, quality of service, and innovation, especially in green aviation. I am determined to do my utmost to contribute to this effort.”
Rautits officially assumed the Alliance Policy and Regulatory Director role at Borealis on the 15th of January.
