The Borealis Alliance, the leading alliance of nine North European Air Navigation Service Providers, has appointed Gwen Morgan as its new Executive Director.
Gwen is currently a senior ATM Manager of Operational Standards and Procedures with the Irish Aviation Authority’s (IAA) Air Navigation Service Provider (ANSP) where she oversees the implementation of and compliance with European Regulations and International Standards.
She has extensive knowledge of the European ATM environment, in particular regulatory affairs and safety management systems, combined with a strong background in Air Traffic Management, airspace structures and airspace management, having worked as an Air Traffic Control Officer (both en-route and terminal) for over a decade.
Gwen is also at present undertaking a part‐time Executive Masters of Business Administration, with newly acquired business and managerial skills complementing her operational expertise.
Commenting on her appointment, Martin Rolfe, Chair of the Borealis Alliance Board and CEO of UK ANSP NATS, said: “Gwen has a comprehensive understanding of the provision of air navigation services and the importance of establishing and maintaining safe, efficient and cost effective ATM services for customers. She was one of many strong candidates and I’m delighted to welcome her to the team.
I’d also like to put on record my thanks to Branka Subotic, who has done a great job during her time as Executive Director, particularly in helping to drive forward our initiative to deliver seamless Free Route Airspace across much of Northern Europe by 2021.”
New Executive Director Gwen Morgan added: “It’s a privilege to have been offered the role and I can’t wait to get started. The Borealis Alliance is at the forefront of delivering the European Commission’s Single European Sky initiative. I’m looking forward to building on the Alliance’s success to date and working with all nine Members to ensure we make a positive contribution to both the airlines and public flying through Europe”.
